SKA Faculty at Shanghai Astronomical Observatory

Shanghai Astronomical Observatory (SHAO) is aiming at building and operating a Square Kilometer Array (SKA) regional science and data center, which would provide strong supports for both upcoming SKA data processing and international scientists to conduct SKA-related scientific research. SHAO is now seeking to fill several faculty positions (professor, associated professor) in radio astronomical research field, focusing on the frontiers and key scientific research to be conducted by SKA1, including the cosmic dawn and epoch of reionization (EoR), pulsar search and timing, and HI survey of galaxies, etc. The new faculty positions are expected to carry out independent research projects, and supervise students and young postdocs, engineers. Talented candidates of all nationalities with experience in radio astronomy or the related fields mentioned above are welcomed to apply.

The salary is very highly competitive in Shanghai, together with abundant research funding and household allowance. We assist the qualified applicants apply for Chinese national recruitment programs as “Young Qianren Program” (professorship), or “New Bairen Program” at SHAO (initial two-year tenure track).

SKA Postdoctoral fellowships at Shanghai Astronomical Observatory

Shanghai Astronomical Observatory (SHAO) is aiming at building and operating a Square Kilometer Array (SKA) regional science and data center, which would provide strong supports for both upcoming SKA data processing and international scientists to conduct SKA-related scientific research. The new center calls for applications for postdoctoral positions in radio astronomical research particularly on the SKA science and technique. Research interests should meet the SKA1 key science projects such as the cosmic dawn and epoch of reionization, pulsar search and timing, HI survey, SKA techniques etc. The postdoctoral fellowships are oriented to active young researchers of all nationalities with experience in radio astronomy or the related fields. Assisting young graduate students is one of the job duties, and independent research ability and high team cooperation spirit are required.

The available positions are listed below:

SHAO is located in a modern office building, close to the center of Shanghai, one of the most rapidly evolving and active cities in Asia. English is widely used in the city and the observatory. The salary depends on qualification and experiences, and is highly competitive.  The positions are for 2 years initially.
