The HXMT data analysis platform is aimed at the tasks related to the key NSFC-CAS project on HXMT. It is not a public platform, and not meant to be so. Therefore the users are limited to OHEA team members and NSFC-CAS project team members.
The HXMT data archive contains private data or data not public. Specifically, data under "Unpublicdata" directory contains data subjective to data right regulations.
The HXMT data analysis space contains confidential information/results. So access to data analysis space not belong to yourself without permission is is not allowed.
The HXMT public data is not complete. If need to download data, we suggest the users to download data initially to their data analysis disks and then ask us to copy those disks to specific data archive directories, I.e., HXMTdata or Unpublicdata directories.
Just to remind that the original installation of the system did not provide the right permission to your home directory and the data area. The following are the guidelines for you to set up private directories.
For example, in your home directory or data directory, if you want to set up a directory named ‘myanalysis’ as read/writeable by yourself only, just do the following:
The data disks for individual users are assigned as the follows:
/media/1HD: Zhen Yan
/media/2HD: Wenda Zhang
/media/3HD: Rapisarda and Yu
/media/4HD: Xiaofeng Cao and Xianghua Li, under directory of their names, respectively.
/media/8HD: Wenfei and Rapisarda
/media/5-7HD: currently not assigned - please do not use these disks
HXMT archive:
/media/QNAP_40T_HD/
public HXMT data is under the directory HXMTdata, and data subjective to data right regulations or not public are under the directory of "Unpublicdata", with subdirectories of each of the user names.
With setup of your VPN, you will be able to use the platform using SSH
examples under Linux or Mac: ssh -Y username@202.127.24.88
the server is named locally as HXMT
Step 1: login on HXMT server, sun $vncserver
You will see the following:
"You will require a password to access your desktops."
then set up the password for your VNC and verify it. Then you will be asked:
"Would you like to enter a view-only password (y/n)? " - you can just answer no here
It will then show something like:
"A view-only password is not used" "New 'HXMT:1 (wenfei)' desktop is HXMT:1" "Creating default startup script /home/wenfei/.vnc/xstartup ... "
Note the HXMT:1 means the port on HXMT is 5901.
Step 2: cancel your current port assigned to you and set up a dedicated one to for your self to use
$vncserver -list
you will see the port assigned to you, and others. Here as an example, :1 which means 5901, is assigned to you. Then cancel it with:
$vncserver -kill :1
Then set up the port you want to use, for example, xy (two digit number of your choice !)
$vncserver :xy
Then up to now, your own VNC desktop is assigned to port 59xy
Notice the default port for me was set to 66. Do not you use this port since I have been using 5966.
Step 3: install TigerVNC on your local PC or notebook.
Details to learn more about VNC, refer to TigerVNC
Step 4: set up the link between the port of 59xy of the remote machine HXMT server with the port 9901 (you can choose other ports of your choice) of your local PC, and then login through your command line:
$ssh yourusename@202.127.24.88 -L 9901:localhost:59xy
Step 3: with the above command line login effective, then on your PC, launch TigerVNC, input:
localhost:9901
and then the VNC password you set in the previous procedures to launch VNC desktop on the HXMT server.
