SC 2.6: Gravity and Mass Displacement

WG2.6.1: Modelling and Inversion of Gravity-Solid Earth Coupling
Chair: Carla Braitenberg (University of Trieste, Italy)

Terms of Reference:
To develop theories of gravity-solid Earth coupling, e.g. crust thickness, isostatic Moho undulations, mass loadings and geodynamics, basin formation, magmatic loading, underplating, thermal effects on density and forward and inversion algorithms in a spherical Earth, gravity tensor and GOCE observations, gravity field related deformation.

WG2.6.2: Physics and dynamics of the Earth¡¯s interior
Chair: Isabelle Panet (IGN, France)

Terms of Reference:
To develop approaches for the determination of the physical properties of the Earth interior and its dynamics, from the joint use of gravity and other geophysical measurement techniques. Insights from earthquakes signals and normal modes will be considered. The objective is to better constrain the structure in the mantle and the core as well as their interactions.

WG2.6.3: Ice melting and ocean circulation from gravimetry
Chair: Jens Schroeter (AWI, Germany)

Terms of Reference:
To address the observation of the Earth's ocean- water and ice sheet variations at all spatial-temporal scales from GRACE data and other sensors, e.g., Altimetry, ICESat, InSAR and GPS, and to understand their trends and contributions to global and regional sea level rise.

WG2.6.4: Land hydrological cycle from gravimetry
Chair: Annette Eicker (Uni Bonn, Germany)

Terms of Reference:
The working group will be dedicated to the development of new strategies and algorithms for using time-variable gravity data from GRACE and data from complimentary sensors in the understanding of the terrestrial water cycle.

Joint Study Group (Commission 2 and 3)
SG 2.1: Gravity and height change intercomparison

Chair: Severine Rosat (IPGS-EOST, France)

Terms of Reference:
This effort is to study surface deformation (mass loading, GIA, coseismic changes...) by comparing ground- and space- gravity measurements with surface displacement (GNSS, SLR, VLBI).

Joint Study Group (Commission 2 and ICCT)
JSG 0.8: Earth System Interaction from Space Geodesy

Chair: Shuanggen Jin (SHAO, China)

Terms of Reference:
To quantify mass transport within the Earth¡¯s fluid envelope and their interaction in the Earth system, and investigate gravity-solid earth coupling, physics and dynamics of the Earth¡¯s interior, and geodynamic processes from isostatic modeling of gravity and topography data as well as density structure of the Earth¡¯s deep interior, together with GPS/InSAR/Gravimetry.
